Lake Pichola is an artificial lake built in 1362 AD and it was named after Picholi village which is just nearby the Udaipur city. Lake Pichola is one of the prime tourist destinations of Udaipur because Lake Pichola is surrounded by hotels, city palace, mountains, restaurants, ghats and temples.

Amrai Ghat and Gangaur ghat are two popular ghats located at Lake Pichola. From both ghats tourists can view the amazing sunset and click many beautiful photos. Don’t get confused with the name – City Palace. Yes, there is 2 popular city palace located in Rajasthan. One is in Udaipur and second is in Jaipur. City Palace Udaipur never built in short period of time but it took over 400 years.

Yes, it was built and contributed by several Mewar Dynasty rulers. City Palace is one of the largest palace of Rajasthan states. City Palace was built with the largest and flamboyant style which gives the magnanimous view of whole Udaipur city. One can view other historic monuments directly from city palace complex including Lake Palace, Lake Pichola, Jag Mandir, Jagdish Temple and Monsoon Palace as well.

City Palace is one of the most visited tourist destination of Udaipur. The only problem tourists faces at City Palace is high entry fees, high parking charges, narrow roads and congested traffic. But, the enthusiastic and history lover tourist would still go to the City Palace. Recently in City Palace Udaipur there was pre-wedding celebration of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal who is daughter of richest Indian person Mukesh Ambani. Due to this pre-wedding ceremony all the hotels of Udaipur was booked and many tourists also faced some issues because whole Udaipur was busy in wedding.

City Palace is not free for the tourists as they have to buy entry fees and if you want to take camera with you then the charges are different for camera as well. Sajjangarh Palace (Monsoon Palace)

Sajjangarh Palace which is also known as the Monsoon palace named after Maharaja Sajjan Singh (1874 – 1884) of the Mewar Dynasty. Monsoon Palace was built in 1884 and gives wonderful view of city’s lakes. Sajjangarh Palace’s main purpose was to watch the monsoon clouds thus it’s named as monsoon palace.

Maharaja Sajjan Singh built this palace to see the glimpse of his ancestral home of Chittaurgarh. Monsoon palace was built with the white marble and located on above 944 Meters of sea level. The main intension of Maharaja Sajjan Singh was to build nine storey complex of astronomical centre to track the movements of monsoon clouds. Monsoon Palace was built partially by Sajjan Singh because he was died prematurely at the age of 26 and later completed by his successor king named Maharaja Fateh Singh in 1884.

Fateh Sagar Lake (FS Lake)

Fateh Sagar Lake which is also known as FS Lake by local people is one of the largest and biggest lake of Udaipur. Fateh Sagar lake was built by the Maharaja Fateh Singh. Fateh Sagar lake has main 3 islands and the largest island is the Nehru Park which is also very popular tourist attraction of Udaipur. The second island is public park with water jet fountain. The third island on Fateh Sagar lake is the Udaipur Solar Observatory. If you want to visit Nehru Park then you can go by Motor Boats.

Apart from these islands Fateh Sagar is very much popular for the food. Yes, there are many vendors alongside fateh sagar which serves different types of delicious food and it’s a biggest food paradise place for local people as well as the tourists as well. The only problem at Fateh Sagar especially at food market is parking issue. There isn’t any specific parking space to park the vehicles and it gets congested because people parks just on the side of the road.

Ambrai or Amrai is the best ghat located at Lake Pichola. From Amrai Ghat tourist can view the complete 360 degree glimpse of Lake Pichola. Yes, from Amrai ghat you can also see the Taj Lake Palace, City Palace, Monsoon Palace, Gangaur Ghat and even bagore ki haveli. Recently released bollywood movie Dhadak starring Jhanvi Kapoor and Ishan Khattar also shot at Amrai ghat.

If you want to reach to Amrai Ghat then just prefer 2 wheeler not car or any other vehicles because roads are very narrow and you might get stuck in it.

Gangaur Ghat

Gangaur Ghat which is also located at Pichola Lake and named after one of the most popular festival of Udaipur and Rajasthan named Gangor. Gangor festival meaning is – “Gana” means lord shiva and “Gaur” means Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva.

On Gangor festival unmarried women celebrates to get blessed with good husband and married women celebrates this festival for long, safe and healthy life of their husband. On Gangaur festival there is traditional procession of Gangaur which passes through several parts of cities including city palace and the Gan and Gauri idols brought to this Gangaur ghat and immerse into the Lake Pichola. Bagore ki Haveli is also nearby Gangaur ghat and both the places are best places to visit in Udaipur.

Badi Lake

Lake Badi is the artificial fresh water lake and is located in the village of Badi. Lake Badi was built by Maharana raj singh and located just 12 Km away of Udaipur city. Lake Badi is lesser known tourist destination of Udaipur city and not many tourists visit this place.

This place is visited by mainly local people during weekend time. Lake Badi covers around 155 Km area and gives the immense view to nature lovers. In 1973 draught lake badi supplied the water to Udaipur city. In recent time Lake Badi became the hot destination for pre-wedding photo shoot and even video shoot.

Jagdish Temple

Jagdish Temple is located in the middle of the Udaipur city and just near to City Palace. Earlier Jagdish temple was known as temple of Jagannath Rai but now as Jagdish temple. Jagdish temple is one of the most important monument of Udaipur city. People worship in Jagdish temple continuously since 1651.

In Jagdish temple tourists can see the three stories of hand carved stone which is why jagdish temple is example of the most beautiful temple. Jagdish temple was completed in 1651 and the cost of building this temple was 1.5 million rupees in that time.

Saheliyon ki Bari

Saheliyon ki Bari is one of the most popular garden in Udaipur and also considered as famous tourist destination of Udaipur. Saheliyon ki Bari has fountains, lotus pool, kiosks and marble elephants. Saheliyon ki Bari is delight place to visit for photographers.

Saheliyon ki Bari place was built by Rana Sangram Singh and it has also a small museum as well. It took 24 years to build Saheliyon ki Bari for Maharana Sangram singh as it built between 1710 to 1734. Saheliyon ki Bari garden was made for the queen so she can relaxe there along with her 48 maids away from politics. Saheliyon ki bari place was designed by king himself. Queen often visits this place along with her maids to spend some good moments in her leisure time.

Jaisamand Lake

Jaisamand Lake which is also known as Dhebar lake is second largest artificial lake of India just after Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar from Uttar Pradesh. It was built in 17th Century and at that time it was considered as the largest artificial lake in the world. Jaisamand lake is located 45 Km’s away from district headquarter of Udaipur.

Dhebar lake or Jaisamand lake was built by Maharana Jai Singh in 1685 and it remained largest artificial lake till 1902 when british built the largest artificial lake of the world Aswan dam in Egypt. Jaisamand lake is surrounded by Jaisamand Wildlife sanctuary which allows tourists to get close look with rich natural habitat.

Kumbhalgarh Fort

Kumbhalgarh fort is not actually in Udaipur but 84 Km’s away from Udaipur city. Kumbhalgarh Fort is also one of the best places to visit during Udaipur tour. Kumbhalgarh Fort is included in UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Hill Forts of Rajasthan which has big fort like Amer Fort, Jaipur.

Kumbhalgarh Fort was built on Aravalli Range and is on 1100 meters above sea level. In Kumbhalgarh Fort there are around 360 temples. Kumbhalgarh Fort was built by the Maharana Kumbha in 15th Century and occupied till 19th Century. Currently Kumbhalgarh Fort is open for tourists and considered as best sunset destination. During evening time tourists can also enjoy the laser show in the fort which gives provides the information of Kumbhalgarh Fort history.

Chittorgarh Fort

Chittor Fort or Chittorgarh has the rich history behind it. Chittorgarh fort is one of the largest forts in India and along with Kumbhalgarh it’s also UNESCO world heritage site included with Hill Forts of India.

Earlier Chittorgarh was the capital of Mewar. Chittorgarh fort was ruled by many kingdom and dynasty but from beginning of the 7th century fort was controlled by the Mewar Kingdom. Chittorgarh fort is very famous for the “Jauhar” as the movie named “Padmavat” was also surrounded by it.

Chittorgarh fort is 127 km away from Udaipur city but has very much connection with the city as it was Mewar’s capital city in the past. Chittorgarh has around 84 water bodies in form of ponds, wells and step wells. These water bodies are filled with completely by natural resources like rain fall and have combined storage of 4 billion liters of water which can feed 50,000 army. These water bodies supplies can last more than four years. Currently there are only 22 water bodies left in chittorgarh fort.

Maharana Pratap Smarak

Maharana Pratap Smarak is dedicated to great Maharana Pratap and his loyal horse Chetak. Maharana Pratap Smarak is located 5 Km away from City Palace, Udaipur. This memorial has the big size broze statue of maharana pratap along with his horse Chetak.

The weight of Maharana Pratap and Chetak statue is 7 tonnes and the height of this statue is 11 feet. Chetak horse was the loyal companion of Maharana Pratap and lost the life in Haldighati battle between Rajputs and Mughals in 1576 AD.

At Maharana Pratap Smarak there is also one museum which shows the history and facts of Haldighati battle, Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh. At Maharana Pratap Smarak there are also statues of his associates including Hakim Khan Sur, Bhamashah, Bhilu Raja, and Jhalaman.

Karni Mata Temple

Karni Mata Temple is located is very near to the Udaipur city and on Machla Magra hills near Dudh Talai Lake. Karni Mata Temple has the stone idol of Karni Mata and visited by many tourists and local people throughout the year. From hill boundry no vehicles can enter so, it’s completely pollution free zone until and unless people make the pollution. One can visit the Karni Mata via ropeway as well. Tourists can see the glimpse of whole city as well as lakes from Karni mata temple.

Doodh Talai Lake & Garden

Doodh Talai Lake is very small pond located near Lake Pichola and it’s very beautiful. Doodh Talai Lake is at the center of the Udaipur city and accessible quite easily. Tourists can visit Doodh Talai lake by taking taxi or auto rickshaws.

The main attraction of doodh talai lake is that it’s surrounded by small hillocks having Manikya Lal Verma Garden which is also known as Doodh Talai Garden and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park.
